The Muncie Max Users Group (MMUG) is a collection of students and faculty using MaxMSP/Jitter to create sonic and visual art. Audio processing, live sonic performance, video tracking, video processing and projection are a few of the avenues that may be explored.
MUGG has contributed to several Downtown Artswalk events at Mitchell Place Studios. April 2, MUGG created sound art using electric currents generated by potatoes. They were able to sample the voltage and use the information to drive various analog synthesis processes.
MUGG has also performed Bowls of Prayer, a sonic performance using two singing bowls with real-time processing through MaxMSP. Prayer or Singing bowls are a type of bell specifically classified as a standing bell. Rather than hanging inverted or attached to a handle, standing bells sit with the bottom surface resting. The sides and rim of singing bowls vibrate to produce sound. Singing bowls were traditionally used throughout Asia as part of religious rituals. Today they are employed worldwide for spiritual and meditation purposes.
MMUG is always looking for new members. If you are interested in finding out more, e-mail us from the contact page, or contact Jesse Allison and Nick Johnson for times and locations. MMUG is supports through the BSU Institute for Digital Intermedia Arts.
